For this project, I wanted to design a cereal box that did more than sell cereal. I grew up in the north, where orcas are part of the landscape, and I built the whole concept around that: the name "Kosatiki" comes from "kosatka," the Russian word for orca.
Beyond the front-facing branding, I used the back panel to actually teach something. It covers orca habitats and conservation, and touches on the folklore and cultural significance orcas hold in Sámi culture, so the box works as a small piece of storytelling, not just packaging.
Once the design was finalized, I built a physical mockup and brought it to my local grocery store to see how it held up next to established brands like Lucky Charms and Trix. Seeing it in a real shelf environment, rather than just in a render, was the best test of whether the design actually worked.
